How to Layer a Fruit and Veggie Shake to Ensure Maximum Gravity Blend
Bonus: My Favorite Fruit/Veggie Shake Recipe in a Ninja
If you own a Ninja or similar gravity blender, it can be tough to get the layering right.
If you put things into the Ninja in the wrong order, you’ll find yourself with a spinning chopper while most of the ingredients sit at the top, obstinately refusing to slide down to blend itself.
Powders and sticky ingredients — like peanut butter — can get stuck on the sides of the blender bullet and get wasted. Nobody likes to spend $30 on a jug of vegan protein only to have it get washed away in the dishwasher.
For daily shake makers like myself, this presented a frustrating situation.
However, with more practice, I learned how to appropriately layer a fruit or veggie shake to ensure maximum blend.
Here is what I learned:
- Begin with ice and/or water first. All shakes need a bit of water to get started. Ice is your choice, but if I decide to use it, the ice goes in first.
- Add your heaviest ingredient next. An apple, banana, figs, or prunes would work here.
- Next, add your lighter ingredients. I put my spinach or kale in this section. You can also add nuts here.
